Working at GEICO in Orlando, FL: 1 Employee Reviews

Auto Damage Adjuster

"I worked at GEICO in Orlando, Florida from 2005 to 2017 as an auto damage claims adjuster (appraiser). I worked every possible scenario offered to the claims adjuster such as working Total loss’s at our 2 Insurance auto auction locations, ARX shops (Geico’s preferred repair shops), as a field adjuster, etc... I have a strong work ethic and took pride in my work however GEICO has shifted nationwide with it’s style of management making this job Highly Stressful and not worth any salary they may offer. Over time, from about 2013 the company began shifting in it’s management style and began to micromanage to an unprecedented degree causing massive stress and anxiety to all the adjusters in our local Orlando office. Verbal warnings for missing opportunities to be a perfect employee quickly turned to “written warnings” that frustrated all of us due to the manager “making” his supervisors write up their employees for very minor things. 95% of our local branch left over a 4 year period causing me to realize the need to leave also. Only 2 seasoned adjusters remain from the old days from a team that numbered over 40 at one time. New adjusters have been hired not knowing anything about the industry and typically leave after 1 year due to the high work demands and the extremely poor work/life balance. I used to encourage my friends to apply (before 2013) but I would never recommend this job to anyone no matter how much they need work because it will mentally damage you due to the unrealistic goals and micromanagement. A couple adjusters had heart attacks and many suffered from severe anxiety issues related to the job. Almost every other insurance company will treat you better as I talked with representatives from almost all of them in my last few years with GEICO. When the adjusters from other companies found out how much the average GEICO adjuster has to juggle they would be mortified. Move to the next companies job postings and forget about GEICO."
