What do you like about working at County of Riverside?
"The schedule is awesome! I currently work a 4/10 schedule and we get holidays off. Coming from a retail environment where weekends were pretty much mandatory it is awesome to now have three day weekends every week. It is a great stress free environment, as long as production is good everyone is good."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Read the job description. Interviews are based on a point system the more key words or skills a candidate mentions in an interview the higher the points they score and the greater the possibility to be hired is."
What don't you like about working at County of Riverside?
"It is a union job. Sure the union does benefit us all as employees but at the same time it makes it so that the only way to promote is by time and seniority. It is a secure job as long as you are productive but there is not a lot of incentive to really work hard, although in this department I am fortunate enough to have excellent coworkers it has a negative effect on employee morale in other departments with high turnover rates like the department of social services (DPSS). At DPSS people will work hard until they pass their probation and then magically become lazy because it is nearly impossible to get fired."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"My office manager is involved when he needs to be and is readily available for any possible consults. We don't have a CEO, I guess that would be the elected Assessor - Clerk - Recorder. Our big fish is great because he frequently visits the various regional offices and makes himself available to all staff and is genuinely caring towards all staff members."

"Many opportunities to promote with in County. Good benefits offered by county."

"Show up on time present your best features jobs in the government very hard to get."
What don't you like about working at County of Riverside?
"Too little training an sharing of information to assist others in work duties."

"Listen to employees that are not in management for what suggestions they may have for improvement."

"Benefits used to be exceptional, however our pension plan has been downgraded and the employer-paid piece has gone down to zero. Pension is 100% paid by the employee now. Politics interfere with work environment and you will see unqualified professionals getting ahead of more qualified professionals. Be prepare for an unfair workplace."

"After you are established, the organization is real good with work/life balance"

"You are rated on what you say-keywords. Panels are used for every position-expect anywhere from 2-5 people on the panel. Keep your questions to a minimum because the interview is mostly one sided."

"The management team believes that the power positions are where the good ideas are. This prevents them from utilizing the talents of low ranking employees"

"Utilize the expertise in the organization. Develop supervisors and managers with the same gusto as new hires."

"Be straight forward, open, and focus on your experience and willingness to work in a political organization."

"Commonly, to ensure that the SMEs are enabled to do their jobs effectively and to remove obstacles for their subordinates. A hand-off approach to management is important, especially with Sr. Level resources."

"Not being able to work with the 'latest and greatest' in regards to new technology."

"I loved the work and enjoyed that my job duties flucuated with the job rotation so I was always able to learn something new. Also, the potential for advancement was almost limitless."

"However, I did not respond well to the overly level of personal politics that circulated that place."
