"Columbia is a very big place, run in a very fragmented, feudalistic way. Very hit-or-miss, depending on your individual departmental situation. Many managers are dead weight, holding on for retirement, blocking any possible advancement. In a corporate environment they'd be fired. Work here for a while if you're feeling lazy, then get back to the real world when you feel like having a career again."
