"I have worked for Citizens Bank for just over a year. It has been found that the company has great work life balance for it's employees and provides a wonderful compensation package with opportunities for commission. There are several opportunities to utilize your talents in different faucets of the business, and internal growth."

"Great place to work if you like being underpaid, underappreciated and frustrated to no end"

What do you like about working at Citizens Bank?

"Lots of opportunities to expand my knowledge base. Without the particular management group that I worked under, though, these career-building experiences would not have existed. Incidentally, the entire management team that I worked under no longer is employed by Citizens Bank/Charter One Bank."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Run away!"

What don't you like about working at Citizens Bank?

"1) Senior management's methodology of performing mass layoffs was simply unscrupulous. Ironically, I was NOT laid off, but other who were laid off were ambushed. For example, a few days before Christmas one year, the entire marketing department in the Cleveland offices was brought into a meeting room thinking that it was just a department meeting and was just let go. Also, there were more than a few days where senior management suddenly hopped onto airplanes for unknown destinations and suddenly appeared in order to lay off employees. Considering the life impact that layoffs have, it was extremely frustrating to see that management lacked the tact to handle this delicate issue in a more professional manner.2) Meetings that went through the motions but did nothing to help accomplish project objectives"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"1) Learn how to layoff employees with more dignity2) Learn that the number of meetings that one attends would be reduced drastically if both of the following are applied: a) invite the team members who are necessary (no more, no less), b) have a clear agenda prior to the meeting"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

What don't you like about working at Citizens Bank?

"They manage by intimidation. Everything is a fire-drill, and then when you're ready to execute, they pull multiple budgeting issues after the fact that your budget per project was already approved and you're back to the drawing board.Their HR department has the worst reputation and the highest turnover in the company. In fact, they couldn't get an Admin position filled for the former HR head as she was such a tyrant thaey had to look in the Boston area for a Prov-based Admin position. They are very behind in the IT area as well. To send an employee-wide communication, (28,000 people), you had to use an Excel file and print labels! They had no internal distribution center that could spray address items. Also, each dept had to manually maintain an Outlook distribution list (for thousands of people). There was no weekly feed from PeopleSoft to a master list by department. We operated like this back in the mid-80's.Lastly, they are so very cheap. Period."
