"I really enjoy getting things done. It's great when hiring is going well, and exciting when we can negotiate an outstanding benefits deal. Communicating good news to employees is always a pleasure. From time to time it can be frustrating when employee issues arise. People don't always behave in what I would consider a logical approach, but we work through these situations. HR policies and principles must remain intact as “no good deed goes unpunished” in the HR world. We must resolve conflict within acceptable consistent guidelines with tact, confidentiality, sensitivity and appropriate types of communication. This builds employee confidence in HR and HR integrity. Employee surveys provide excellent input to measure this perception. I enjoy assisting my peers in problem solving and enjoy employee events. It's a lot of work for HR sometimes, but worth it. I have worked well with brokers and outside employment counsel in the US and overseas. I really don't have any big negatives about being SVP HR. I have been doing this long enough, I don't mind if the buck stops here, so long as I am in sync with my boss and my peers."

"There were three things that I liked about my work at The Merchandise Mart: 1) the people I worked with were terrific, 2) every day was different and 3) I had a lot of freedom to complete my assignments."

"I don't think the company is hiring right now, so they won't be doing any interviewing."
What don't you like about working at Merchandise Mart Properties?
"I didn't have many complaints. It was unfortunate that the company was going through downsizing and letting go of many qualified people."

"Management was in a tough situation as they were responsible for downsizing. I don't think the current situatiion is easy for them either."

"If you are going to interview here, then you need to educate yourself on the difference between credit unions, banks, savings and loans, and other financial institutions."
