"TVA pays well for Chattanooga, but it is hard to get promoted in corporate. If you want to sit around for 40 hours a week, that's OK with management. So if you are a high-performer you may be frustrated since effort and delivery is not rewarded. There are no modern aspects like telework or casual dress. There is no fitness center or juice bar. The cafes are dreadful. The culture is quite social though and there are lots of awesome people, so you can distract yourself from the disappointing lack of advancement. Going to lunch with coworkers downtown is a good thing."

"With over 10,000 employees, TVA is a large and diverse government-owned utility company. It has a lot of great people and interesting opportunities, but advancement is not easy. Some in management are promoted because they manage up well, which leads to some people believing they are leaders when they have no idea how to lead others. TVA is very set in its ways and doesn't believe management outside of TVA accounts for much. They want "yes" people, which can create group think; something that can rot an organization like cancer."

"I have worked at TVA for the last seven years. I was hired in during schedule outages and worked "hourly " for 47 days earning 17000+, I got laid off for 9 days and then I was hired back in as an augmented TVA deckhand. I worked in this position for approx. 5 yrs and then TVA opened up the curtain and conducted interviews with myself and other qualified applicants, finally the call came with an offer for the full annual position. My job is great, it's the kind of job I actually enjoy getting up going to each day. I work with a great group of individuals under the safest conditions."

"I've worked for TVA for over 30 years. Generally the work environment is good and the people very professional. However, it is nearly impossible to be promoted to higher level management positions. Generally these are filled by managers from outside the company and they tend to bring in their buddies. It's also difficult to get to a decent retirement age... as the company tends to force mid-level employees when their retirement is starting to pay-off."

"I worked for TVA From February 2011 to December 2013. TVA is a good company, stable and with clear premises but the company is experiencing bad financial times. I got laid off, now I need to move on. Certainly I enjoyed my time while there."
