Working at Specialized Career Search in Allentown, PA: 1 Employee Reviews

Specialized Career Search Employee

"I joined this company because I believed there was an opportunity to start a rewarding career in recruiting – to help impact businesses, change the lives of others and for myself to grow professionally. Unfortunately, this opportunity did not exist. Lack of training: When I started, I was given a book to read that was written 10-15 years ago and a couple different industry specific websites to look at. That was the basis of my “training/onboarding.” The training resources were extremely limited. Micro-Management: The micro-managing that happens here is unbelievable. There were many times where I received emails or messages at night or on the weekends about mundane things. For example, I received a nasty email on a Saturday morning at 8 am because of 40 candidates I talked to that week, I forgot to upload ONE resume to the system. I also received a nasty email on my HONEYMOON. I also got in trouble for not replying “fast enough” on a Saturday. One of the most ridiculous things was when I was told 8 or 9 weeks into my employment that I don’t show up to work early enough, when I had never been late and was always 10-15 minutes early. Unprofessionalism: The owner always came off as being irritated when I was in his presence and was unapproachable. At one point I was told when everyone is allowed to leave early, that doesn’t apply to me. There were times the owner would wait for me to make a mistake and say he was testing me – instead of just being upfront about what he wanted. To me that was very unprofessional and petty. However, his father-in-law works there and it is AMAZING how his demeanor changes from talking to him versus everyone else. Ultimately, I left and did something very out of character – left w/o notice. Which is a testament to how terrible my experience was. After I left, I was told I owed money for time off (that I earned). It was insinuated that I could be sued if I didn't pay. I showed my lawyer and he laughed."
