Event Manager

"Needs improvement. Could be a good place to work with some professionalism implemented."

What do you like about working at Shreveport Convention Center?

"I enjoyed working with the clients."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you're black you'll have no problem working at the convention center. Reverse racism is abundant."

What don't you like about working at Shreveport Convention Center?

"The management has got to go. I witnessed everything from people being threatened with physical violence and not being punished to operations personnel smarting off to the general manager while he just stood there and took it. I had to listen to the constant rambling on of the operation manager's personal problems. I know way more than I would like to about his divorce and how he cheated on his wife with his former secretary. The hours were unrealistic. 6 days a weeks - 12+ hour days while upper management was at home in their cushy beds (unless of course the mayor was at the event, then the gm and operations manager worked like crazy). The harder I tried to do a good job, the more I was accused of having an agenda by the operations manager. The staff is overly paranoid as they should be because they do a very poor job of running the place and should loose their jobs. The employees who do a good job are taken advantage of and end up practically living at the convention center to get the job done. It was by far the WORST employment experience I have ever had."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Fire the operations manager. He has caused enough problems and done nothing but cast doubt over the good name of the convention center. Stop being so paranoid. Encourage the employees who want to do a good job and make a name for themselves after-all if they look good the convention center looks good. Have the sales team train with the event management team. Not enough communication going on there. No need for the food and beverage manager position. Event managers should schedule F&B or vice versa. Get some management training for the mid-level management so they know how to manage professionally. The General Manager manager is spineless."
