Security Architect at Sears
in Hoffman Estates, IL

What do you like about working at Sears?

"I like the location, and as with every company, there are some good people/talent."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Benefits are sparse. Medical is twice the cost of previous employers with worse value. There is no 401k match. The yearly bonus is literally double-digit after taxes. Company discount is being removed in lieu of Shop Your Way Points, which are a joke, and significant limits are placed on what you can use them for. The CEO appears only interested in selling off the assets of the company. Probably a year or two more until the shoe drops."

What don't you like about working at Sears?

"I don't like uncertainty about the future. low morale, and lack of any clear direction."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"CEO just resigned and is being replaced by the Chairman of the Board - not really an improvement."

"Good professional challenge in new technology areas e.g. mobile networking, big data analytics, IT/product security trends."

"I would caution new applicants to have a good handle on setting acceptable work boundaries. In my experience, more capable team members are called upon frequently to make up the differences when others don't deliver."

What don't you like about working at Sycamore Networks?

"Tight budgets and unrealistic expectations along with a poor physical work environment. There is an unwillingness of management to assess the needs/costs of managing complexity in modern communication networks (e.g. mobile networks). Little interest in sharpening any saws."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Be more receptive to recommendations to manage complexity, consider data representation standards to improve analysis effectiveness. Don't rely so heavily on brute force to meet release deadlines."
