Overview The New York Stock Exchange is the biggest stock exchange in the world located in New York City, New York. It is often referred to by the acronym NYSE and has a market capitalization of $14.242 trillion. The New York Stock Exchange was created in 1792 by 24 stockbrokers in New York, being called the New York Stock & Exchange Board.

The NYSE's primary function is to give buyers and sellers the opportunity to trade stock in publicly traded companies. The regular trading schedule is Monday to Friday between 9:30 AM and 4:00 PM New York City time, except for certain holidays. In order to improve the efficiency of trading and to benefit from modern technology, transactions are done electronically since 1995, with traders using hand held computers instead of paper slips. Since 2007, it is possible for customers almost every stock electronically with immediate order execution.
