"I loved working at Macy's Burdines. The biggest problem for me was that I could go no further in their corporate environment."

What do you like about working at Macy's?

"I guess the best thing about Burdines - Macy's was that you were forced to wear so many different hats. The nature of retail was to be always on the go, as products change rapidly - so you must change. Also, they were not in the advertising business, they were retailers first and foremost - so you really had to be passionate about your work - to show them that you could do it better than anything they imagined without sacrificing quality for sale results."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Just be honest, just be yourself - if you get the job - they will teach their way... but more importantly just make sure you really want a career in the retail industry. It's a very fast paced, numbers and sense, business - often times there are no time for pleasantries. But believe it or not it can be very satisfying - it's what you make of it!"

What don't you like about working at Macy's?

"My biggest problem was the corporate environment... honestly, as they are a national company - they tend to get it. So it was never anything I couldn't handle."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Stop with the last year sales event schedule and re-invent a tired calendar. Just because it's been done that way for years doesn't always make good business sense to keep doing it year after year."
