Overview Lehigh University is one of the nation's most esteemed private universities. The main campus is located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Asa Parker established the school in 1865. Mr. Parker was an entrepreneur, philanthropist, politician and industrial pioneer. The university's original curriculum focused on the sciences and mathematics. In its first year, Lehigh had only 39 male students.

Today, Lehigh is a coeducational institution with almost 7,000 students. The university is divided into four colleges. Eighty percent of Lehigh's classes have fewer than 35 students, and almost 70 percent of Lehigh's faculty is tenured. The university is highly ranked for student selectivity, financial value and retention rate.
