International Paper Company was incorporated on January 31, 1898, when 18 pulp and paper mills merged. After the company's incorporation in 1898, it acquired Hammermill Paper Company in 1986, Masonite Corporation in 1988, Zanders Feinpapiere AG (a German company) and Aussedat Rey (a French company) in 1989. International Paper also bought Union Camp Corporation in 1999, and Champion International Paper in 2000.

Today, International Paper is a company that produces uncoated papers and industrial and consumer packaging. The company also offers printing, packaging, graphic arts, maintenance and industrial products and is headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee. ITC is the largest producer of plastic lids and paper cups in today's market and manufactures for major fast food chains such as McDonald's and Wendy's.

Currently, IPC employs about 60,000 employees in over 20 countries. In the United States, the company operates pulp, paper, and packaging mills, converting and packaging plants, recycling plants, as well as bag facilities. IPC also has facilities in many other countries as well.
