Independent Producers of America, which is also known as IPA or the IPA Family, is a sales and marketing firm headquartered in Tampa, Florida. The company provides health, life, and stop-loss insurance. The corporation is publicly traded on both NASDAQ and the New York Stock Exchange. Despite the corporation’s large size, it maintains a small-business atmosphere. The Independent Producers claims that the corporation is a group of self-employed small business owners serving other small business owners with individual health insurance plans. IPA products provide small businesses with affordable insurance options that meet the new insurance mandates signed into law in 2010.

The IPA Family was established nearly 30 years ago. Today, the corporation holds over 1.3 billion in assets and serves over a million individuals and groups across the United States. Many employees are independent contractors, so employment with the corporation is possible in almost every state.

With the exception of the management and training team, most of those working at Independent Producers of America are independent contractors. Every member of the staff must start as an independent contractor and virtually all promotions are made from within the company. Independent contractors attend meetings with potential clients to educate those clients on IPA products and attempt to market those products.

Those interested in IPA careers will have the freedom to choose how little or how much they wish to work in order to meet their personal goals. The IPA Family benefits reflect this freedom. Because the majority of employees are independent contractors, a traditional benefits package is not offered.

Compensation is based on the number of appointments and sales the employee makes. The corporation provides guidance as to how many appointments should be set to meet the employee’s personal income goals. Employees receive weekly advance compensation, as well as monthly PACE bonus compensation that is based on continued performance. Employees also receive residual compensation and stock ownership. The company matches stock contributions dollar for dollar with no monthly or annual limits.

The IPA culture is one of being a family. The company states that offering support, attention, and respect to their associates causes the associates to transfer those same qualities to the customers. While each associate is an independent contractor and works for him or herself, each associate is also part of The IPA Family. The management all started as independent contractors, making the support and training offered by those managers more authentic and relevant to the associates.
