"There are some excellent opportunities for education and training. You have the opportunity to work with some excellent people. They truly value diversity."

"Many companies will value your experience with General Mills, probably more than General Mills will."

What don't you like about working at General Mills?

"Opportunities for growth within the supply chain (Plant operations, engineering/maintenance, quality) are severely limited. Certain individuals are deep-selected for middle management positions necessary for advancement, which creates a logjam."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"An alarming majority of middle managers are inexperienced, and rather lacking in leadership & people skills. They make little effort to develop the majority of their subordinates."

"You better be from a Big Ten School or an top 5 program, otherwise you won't get a hearing They want to make Engineers into Management Will you have the people skills to survive"

What don't you like about working at General Mills?

"Absolutely horrible with regards to what you must trade for the positives stated above. Layers and Layers of Management and if you were to scratch your way to a decent position you would have to fight to keep it. Work life balance What is that; an urban legend"

"Get over yourselves already! Treat people like human beings not pieces on a chess board!"

What do you like about working at General Mills?

"I had the freedom to work as a sales rep with very little supervision which was a good thing. Sales meetings were good but sometimes very little information could be used in the field. Over all I enjoyed my job."

What don't you like about working at General Mills?

"Because of the lack of supervision many of the sales reps took advantage of the freedom and were not giving General Mills the amount of work that they were getting paid to do. Yet they made it look like they were doing their job.At one point a sales rep was doing the computer work for one of the supervisons because the sales rep had a great bit of knowledge on computers and the supervison didn't. In place of helping the supervisor, the sales rep on days that she did computer work she didn't go out into the field and do store work."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"understand that not all areas are the same and that not everything can be sold the same in every account"

"General Mills, Inc. (I worked for a Food Service branch, which was a packaging division). The people, the compensation, and working for a Top 5 Employer in the World was thrilling."

"Be aware that the Corporate Office in Minnesota has shut down several Union Operations across the United States after acquiring Pilsbury."

What don't you like about working at General Mills?

"General Mills Inc. required New Employees you to work alternating shifts with extensive overtime until a permanent Classified position was bid on and won. Be prepared for 60 to 72 off-shift hours per week as a new employee."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Corporate has to have better faith in it's branches that were producing at 99% capacity. There's no reason they needed to shut down a dozen sites across the U.S. with annual sales being in excess of 13 billion dollars in Revenue. The decision to eliminate high paying jobs not only affected thousands of workers and their families but ultimately, General Mills' Revenue will suffer as well."
