Currently located Houston, Texas, this college was founded in Dallas in 1900. It was known as the University of Dallas Medical Department even though there wasn’t a University of Dallas at the time. Baylor’s reputation for medical research was recognized by the CPRIT (Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas when it awarded Baylor $38 million in funding for cutting edge cancer prevention research. It also ranks first in funding from the National Institutes of Health. Baylor has 25 departments and over 90 centers for research and patient care. It has almost 3,000 faculty members, including almost 2,000 full-time faculty members and over 400 part-time members. The balance of its faculty is made up of volunteers and retired members.
