"I recently transferred over from Streator, IL. where I was a Petroleum Section Chief. Had on of my best military careers there. I recently moved over to Mattoon, IL. Where I am currently a Platoon Sergeant. My senior leadership is a well groomed group."
"Proud of what I do."
"My stay was fantastic. I was given multiple challenges on the weekly basis that were test to see if I could handle more responsibility. My supervisor saw potential and mentored me to be greater than I was. By the time I left I had gained more knowledge than I had ever expected from my stay."
"I've been working for the Utah Army National Guard for over 8 years. I have been currently working full-time for the Guard for three years now. My current orders are about to end with no option to renew."
"Excellent, constructive group to work with. Great professional development!"
What do you like about working at Army National Guard?
"Very constructive, team-oriented environment. Opportunity to work autonomously without anyone micromanaging or looking over your shoulder. Military mentality means everyone in the office pulls their weight - there's no worry about having to make up for slackers' lack of work ethic."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Bring your A-game and be prepared to be away from your family a LOT. If you can handle the stress of writing code at 0300 in the morning and running on 3-4 hours of sleep, you'll never find a better place to work. If that sounds anything less than exhilarating to you, you're looking in the wrong place."
What don't you like about working at Army National Guard?
"Due to the nature of my position, there is very little room for in-house promotion or advancement. Also, being a government job, I am near the bottom of the salary bracket for the type of work I do (especially considering the security clearance I hold and the amount of personal information I regularly handle) and the amount of time I put in (often working nearly 24/7 for weeks on end)."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Honestly, absolutely none. For the first time in my adult life, I can honestly say I am working with and under the finest men and women I've ever met. Our command team is incredibly efficient and genuinely cares about their soldiers/employees, our middle management supervises JUST enough to be helpful without being overbearing, and our junior supervisors work WITH their teams to implement new ideas instead of providing the ideas then simply watching their minions work."
"Hard work with lots of benefits."
