Working at Air France in New York, NY: 1 Employee Reviews

Air France Employee

"Get in, learn and get out."

What do you like about working at Air France?

"Great place to get experience. Multicultural work force. Travel benefits on Air France flights aren't so hot (you can often do better on the Internet,) but interline partners may give you a great deal."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Prepare to obey orders. When asked What are your scheduling restrictions say none and be ready to back it up. Don't count on being able to get time off for school."

What don't you like about working at Air France?

"Don't stay too long! You'll be paid below market rate when you start and get a 2% raise every year until you leave. This means you'll get farther and farther below market rate and often make less than the cost of living. Other airlines will pay you more and give you better benefits, sometimes in less than a year. The US work force is small (only a couple hundred) and unless you're a male French national you can forget about rising above middle management. The occasional exceptions are hired from outside the company.Top management positions are filled by French expatriates who stay for 4 years. Their careers depend on pleasing their superiors in Paris so none of them want to authorize spending more for anything in the US. The practice of investing for the future doesn't exist. If you're a French citizen working for Air France in France you have a government job, and they're run about as efficiently as the US Post Office."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Stop treating the company like a gentlemen's club for the aristocracy. Support the divisions that make money instead of outsourcing them. Treat good employees with respect instead of like unpleasant nuisances."
