Operator at Chevron
in Taft, CA

What do you like about working at Chevron?

"It's a dangerous job, where blame is important. The schedules are unrealistic and you are on call 24/7 and not paid for it. If you make a mistake you will be investigated and blamed and Chevron will be exonerated. Engineers rule at CPL. Operations people are the lowest form of life in Chevron culture. Stay away from operations and you may be ok. Oh, by the way it is easy to get fired - watch out!"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"The future is for young engineers. If you're not an engineer, go someplace else and don't take your time, run! The probationary period is 1 full year. My father died when I was less than 6 months with Chevron, I went out of town to his funeral anyway, after told I could NOT go. I got in trouble and had to beg for my job."

What don't you like about working at Chevron?

"Dangerous, high pressure, no future, everything is monitored, your work truck records everything and talks to you when it thinks you do wrong. Everything is documented, if you overlook something - it's your ass! But you will never do anything right. The management must keep control of you at all cost. If you talk back to the boss you're fired! And don't expect to get weekends off."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I would add more people. Provide training so people can be safe. I would end managements corruption and either make the union ethical or dump them all together. I would end the company culture that non engineer types and non management people are the scum of the earth."

"A dangerous job with poor compensation."

What do you like about working at PPG Industries?

"The company is close to home. The job provides great training and experience to obtain employment with competitors."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"This is a dangerous place to work. It is likely you will be forced to work in a place you do not want to and put your safety in jeopardy for minimal compensation."

What don't you like about working at PPG Industries?

"The compensation is absolutely unacceptable due to the dangerous nature of the work and the responsibilities given. The overall attitude of employees is negative. Poor communication among supervisors and employees is a daily problem. Production is put over safety. The union protects and provides for maintenance more than operators. Drastic discipline is given to employees for questionable problems."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Please improve the experience working for PPG. Communicate well with your employees. Please provide a safe work environment and stop using statistics as an excuse to prove you are doing so. The chronic exposure to toxic chemicals happens and is unavoidable if required tasks are to be completed."

Operator at Henkels & McCoy
in Richmond, VA

What do you like about working at Henkels & McCoy?

"I cannot think of anything good that has come out of working for this company."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Run the other way. If you have a family or want to have a life outside of work this is not the company for you."

What don't you like about working at Henkels & McCoy?

"Since I have been working there, I have had to resign from my volunteer position on the board of a local youth athletic association, I have had to step down as a coach for my children's baseball, soccer & basketball teams, I have had to quit college and I have missed numerous events with my children and family; such as Halloween, special school activities / award ceremonies. This barely touches the negative impact this company has had on mine and my families life. Since working at Henkels and McCoy my sons' attitude has become very negative, my other son has had his grades decline and my daughter is also having emotional issues. This is all due to the fact that I am no longer home for family dinners or to participate in homework or other activities. Although I work locally, I leave home before my children wake up in the morning and on most evenings don't get home until after they have gone to bed. My wife is so stressed that she is no longer sleeping and has suffered from hair loss."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I would suggest that you re-look at the Core Values of your company. Take for instance Compassion, Respect, Committment. There is no compassion, nor respect for you employees. Stewardship - there is no time outside of work to share time or talents with the community. Perspective - there is no balance between work and personal lives. There is only work."
