The software developers are all top notch and very intelligent

Corporate culture is very outdated. There is no flex time, work from home, casual dress. Management is the "Good ole Boy" system and is has leader in technology which have very outdated skills sets and/or are liars and misleaders.

If you want to get ahead, agree with everything that your architect says, your manger says and do not correct or offer advice. Make sure you do 50+ hours of work a week averaged throughout the entire year. Take time off, but come into work anyways.
