"I've worked for McClatchy for 20 years in a variety of supervisory roles. My last role was as the West Region Audience Director supervising our ten properties in Washington,California, and Idaho. I found my career with McClatchy to be both challenging and rewarding. No two days were alike and each day presented new challenges. The best part of the job was being part of a great team."
"McClatchy is a good company with a lot of good, hard-working people. The only downside is the financial instability of the company. Cutbacks have been hard, but there are still a lot of great folks in these newsrooms doing great work."
"I've worked for McClatchy in the news division for several years. The company overall is good but unfortunately due to some financial woes, the company has had to have several rounds of layoffs. That's caused a bit of a moral dip, but the quality of the journalism and the day to day grind is about the same as you'd see in any other newsroom. There isn't a lot of diversity here yet but the company is making that more of a priority recently. Retention is also a problem (sometimes due to there being better paying jobs with better benefits). One perk of this place in particular is that it has a better work-life balance than most newsrooms, thanks to a few caring managers."
"McClatchy got me off to a good start in my career. A good entry level salary for a DC resident, adequate benefits, and very supportive and understanding colleagues as well as access to a lot of great equipment and talented reporters. Was ultimately laid off pre-bankruptcy, but enjoyed while it lasted."
"I worked for McClatchy for over 12 years & I found they are more concerned over liability than their employee's safety."
