"IT at Cal Poly is a mess and very political."
What do you like about working at Cal Poly SLO?
"Some of the people are awesome to work with, the variety of the work is."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"It'll be tough being an insider, especially these days Cal Poly hires almost everyone internally, this helps them avoid laying people off more than anything (bad budget and all)."
What don't you like about working at Cal Poly SLO?
"The politics, academics rule even if they have no clue what they are doing or talking about. IT works very dysfunctionally, not very well integrated, communication is poor, getting stuff done requires you know the right people if you want it done in a timely manor."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Allow people more control over what it is that they do. Give me chances to move up in the world, give people more chances to get to know each other, encourage the use of more campus services by cutting their costs, encourage people within ITS to communicate more, encourage ITS to not look down upon IT people not within ITS. Stop nickle and diming for every little thing, network ports shouldn't cost $150 per port to heat up especially when all you have to do is patch them. The list goes on and on."

"Unrestricted internet, ability to work without much guidance, interacting with faculty."

"You have a very low chance of getting hired. The majority of the people they hire are within the company. They have to post their positions on their website as a state requirement, even though they may have no intention of hiring someone that currently doesn't work for Grand Valley."
What don't you like about working at Grand Valley State University?
"IT department does not like new ideas. Full time employees will not make our jobs easier if it requires them to do work."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"The department would be more efficient if the 5 highest paid employees in the IT department were fired and replaced with high school graduates."

"As an IT service company I'm always working for new contracts and I can't choose where I can work. Actually my contract is not I'm looking for."

"Trust IT team, now how to congrates and say what is wrong to be always as good as we could."

"Don't stress it. The interview is the least of your worries. Weigh your options if you are given an opportunity"

"The location is in a remote location and there really isn't much for a young person to do"

"I do not have any suggestions for management. There isn't much more that could have been done."

"The inability to advance because I am a contractor and the benefits for the contracting company."

"I would suggest a sectional implementations of EPIC instead of a going live with a 100% of the software at one time."

"I liked the rapid growth, client interaction, independence, and not-so-tight budgetary constraints."

"Just be yourself, present your value offer, and run with it."

"I dislike the lots and lots of offshoring to India and China. Is that really necessary?"

"It is okay to offshore; after all, globalization would benefit us all in the long run. Just do it in balance - they get this, we get that."

"the work was challenging and giving exposure to many different companies"

"don't expect a regular paycheck. When you work, you work hard and get rewarded for it. If there's no work, well, no paycheck. But what do you expect, you are a consultant"

"the boss expects everyone to do marketing. Also, over time the quality of work declined to just SMB administration"

"no, I don't have any suggestions because the problem will take care of themselves."

"Look elsewhere. the company is basically shut down and not much activity remains."

"No work, i.e. pay due to poor economy. The company has closed."

"Most are gone cause many projects finished and clients have reduced / eliminated work. attempt business growth."

"For most moving to Bermuda for work experience is more of a lateral move than a progressive one. This is due the small size of the island. However you will find it to be an unique experience nonetheless. If you like challenges and like being part of a socially close and experienced team of experts in telecommunication, North Rock should be your number 1 choice."

"Our budget slowed some of our progress, but we always managed to balance cost with features."

"Keep hiring good personnel, it's a complex network that's been growing over that past 5 years."
