"Hot Topic can be an extremely fun job! It sells awesome music and licensed product that you can use to connect with customers all day. As an employee your number one job will be to sell, which can be fun but stressful at times. As a manager though you often work alone, and have heavy task loads which can distract from selling. There is not many hours available for employees, and the company is always finding ways to cut more. You are offered very little support from Hot Topic. Every tool it gives you to help you complete your job is extremely inefficient and time consuming. I have worked there for 10 years, and so far it has failed to advance and become a company of the future. As a company it makes me feel under paid, and that I, as well as my customers are unappreciated by the company. As a manager you will have to deal with many angry customers over our online customer service, the website in general, and gift cards. For some reason Hot Topic can not evolve into the 21st century and have a modern website. This is an example of your typical work day as a manager. You will work alone and have a list of things to complete, such as shipment, a display to change, a store to re-fold, sweep, and clean the glass. Don't forget to sell, that is the most important thing! While doing all this you will most likely have 5 or 6 customers in your store, sometimes more. You could get stuck behind register during this time which makes it very difficult to sell everybody something, and to prevent theft. Don't forget to answer the phone as well and call customer service for any online customer issues. While working alone I have been on hold with customer service for 15 plus minutes, and then hung up on. These are the tools given to you to make your job easier."
"Great company with an amazing business model. It's lead by a team of passionate professionals who truly care about their consumer."
"Leadership cares about employees."
"This company is a great brand to work for. There are countless of opportunities to move up in the company if you’re willing to put in the hard work and dedication it takes to get you there. The pay isn’t one of their most appealing benefits (although not completely unfair) however what you learn in experience is well worth it. It’s a great starting company to kickstart your career."
"I’ve worked for Hottopic since 2017 it’s a great place to work at. The company is flexible with their employees. The company presents various opportunities to move up for their employees."
"I have worked with Hot Topic (intermittently) for four years. I enjoy the work environment, relationships we get to build with our customer base, and ability to have open conversations with my superiors to truly be engaged in the business."
