Associate Director
in San Diego, CA

What do you like about working at Hanbleceya House?

"I had a chance to hone my clinical and management skills."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be prepared to face a challenging three tiered interview process. First you must convince the Director that you have the training, skills, character, and mindset to join the team. Secondly, be prepared to be interviewed by all staff and interns so they can get a feel for how you might be to work with in this unique and intensive treatment setting. If you have made it through the first two interviews (and still want to work there), you will be invited to a community meeting to be interviewed by all of the clients, many of whom are psychologically very sophisticated and have mastered the professional jargon. You may believe you are talking to a mental health care professional, but in fact be talking to a patient."

What don't you like about working at Hanbleceya House?

"The client population we served was difficult and staff intensive. I was functioning as the owner and director and all that entails, and was keeping a client load of my own. I cannot say that this is a reason to not like working at Hanbleceya, just that it was an unremitting source of stress, and after several years I decided it was time to seek other healthcare challenges."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Keep true to the treatment philosophies, traditions, and exceptional level of care. Also, make sure you take care of yourself and recognize client and personal limitations."
