Grand Hall Anonymous Employee
in Garland, TX

"Grand Hall (USA) could be a great company. To me it is a case-study of the problem with nepotism. The CEO is the owner's sister. The owner's son is the VP of marketing. The ops manager is married to the warehouse manager, the maintenance manager is married to the ceo, the manager of the grill side is married to the manager of the water heater side. I probably forgot someone, but you get the point. If you're not married to someone, you don't matter. I saw probably 50 people get hired and either fired or leave in the couple years I was there. They have massive turnover, and having rules like "no gazing out the window" doesn't help. They are losing customers left and right because they burned a whole bunch of bridges when their water heaters were first released and their subsequent policies just poured salt on the wound. While they hemorrhage money because of core issues, they micromanage their employees and blame them for things like their employee turnover. I liked working there, but not because of any sort of expertise on the part of management. I got the impression that none of the upper managers had ever worked for a different company and thus had no idea how other companies do things. This company is kept afloat by the parent company, which is overseas and is run by competent people with happy customers."
