Regional Visual Manager
in East Northport, NY

"Great sport but, would never want to work for this company ever again."

What do you like about working at Golfsmith International?

"I truly enjoy the golf industry but, Golfsmith takes more than it gives. I did enjoy working for my direct supervisor and designing some of the fixtures and graphics that are now part of the Giolfsmith brand. Being the lead installer for the Manhattan Flagship store was also a high point. I do believe that I was able to put together a top notch location with much help from other managers and visuals from throughout the country."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Run away as fast as you can They will take everything out of you and then call you in to work at 7:15 AM, and give you walking papers by 7:30 AM. This after opening, refitting, and maintaining a region as well as throughout the country, then sending you packing. It is not the way to do business and certainly not the way to treat a loyal employee. As I said....run, do not walk from this company! They destroyed an entire department with no warning and with such ease that it was scary. After 2 years of major work for the company, many of us in the Visual department were given little severance and no place to move in the company......not a place to feel safe. Many visuals that day in Feb. were out of a job....not cool."

What don't you like about working at Golfsmith International?

"I did not like the upper management at the corporate level. I found it to be truly an all boys network. The language at many events bordered on being inappropriate. It is funny how one person who cannot seem to get out of their own way can destroy a job that you worked very hard on. Mr. K is someone that I will never forget. Beyond being rude, I found him to be incompetent but, for some reason....they love him. Many who have worked directly for or with this gentleman seem to leave with the same sense....he is not a nice man nor someone that I would want to work for long term."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Pay better attention to the people that are truly doing a great job for you and weed out the people that destroy the wonderful policy of Guest First that you promote. Your company would be far better served with people that do know and live the golf lifestyle."
