"IT environment is definitely challenging, in the wrong ways. Only way up is to be a manager or a director. Ratings are based on manager favoritism, grapevines, and the adaptation to poor quality IT solutions by offshores who have absolutely no clue what they are doing. This is because they are given full authority, to their own designs, and to get the least priced ASAP. Managers who have been long with Ciena, think they own the place, and do not maintain basic standards of professionalism. So if you enjoy this type of unique challenge, right. Ciena is the place for you. Get that PMP soon. Getting easy IT money by letting the company go down the drain by poor IT solutions, can definitely be a fun place to work, sure."

"One major factor is that most of the good work is sent offshore, hence meager chance of any quality addition to technical skills. The technical teams stand disconnected. The offshore teams have more control, and less tendency to share work with those internal to Ciena. Some want to give quality work than battle such vibes, and Ciena fails to be a place for such."
