Working at Barrett Electric in Concord, NH: 2 Employee Reviews

Barrett Electric Employee

"I worked there for 5 months--shady feeling environment. The company has capital issues. Standing on jobs waiting for parts, and when received they're from a different supply house each time. Vehicles are not road-worthy, nor are they even insured. UL panel shop consists of a workbench and a couple of shop lights. Always scrounging for materials. The company can't even afford its own dumpster. Guys take trash from shop home to get rid of. Dont be fooled by owners big shot talk, it's all smoke and mirrors. Also ZERO benefits no health insurance, sick time, holidays etc"

"The owner will promise you the world - controls school, rate work, a cool job at the cutting edge of the latest technologies... the guy, the entire company operates out of a storage garage in the back of a sports complex in Concord. The supposed "UL Panel Shop" that's promoted on the company website is nothing more than some old staging set-up as a work bench. The company vehicles have not only been Bond-O'd once, but they've been Bond-O'd twice and then a third time again even for good measure! Those vehicles are little more than rolling coffins for anyone that steps in one - though fortunately (for the employees at least) they've become so bad that gradually, one by one, they're being taken to the scrap yard where they should've gone five years ago. Employee morale? Well, I started here eight months ago. At that time Barrett Electric had ten employees. Of those original ten from only eight months ago only three remain! The benefits are non-existent. No health insurance, no 401k, no vacations... the company doesn't even offer direct deposit. The health insurance thing is really ridiculous given that the company has been in business for thirty years now. You can whine about how employees should get their own, and how Obama and the liberals are ruining America, and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah... look, this is where we are as a society in 2015. Every legitimate operation out there offers health insurance. McDonald's offers health insurance, for crying out loud. Stop trying to be a martyr for some supposed libertarian "cause" that you don't even fully understand. Just give employees some benefits already and maybe you'll retain someone for more than a year. The company has been literally kicked out of two job sites since I've been here. This company has a weird fly-by-night way about it. We'll be sent to job sites where there are no materials and no works simply so that the owner can bill our hours out to the General Contractor."
