The credit union began with just $65 in 1934, the dream of 13 local Pacific Telephone workers who sought an alternative to official banks. Created as Telephone Employees Credit Union, the institution experienced several significant growth phases, eventually opening up to residents and workers of several Southern California counties. The name was changed to Wescom Credit Union in 1996. Currently, the company has assets of nearly $2.5 billion.
