"All in all, McDonald's was a good place to work. It teaches you patience, structure and hard work."

"It's sort of a crappy work place, you always feel gross when you leave. I feel like the company treats you like an ant, as it were. Inferior, in some way, to them. The store manager is nice, and most of the crew are nice too, but the area managers (people who actually own the local McDonalds) come in, yell at everyone, and leave. There are next to no benefits, and the owner is a complete cheapskate. I get 10 hours a week for my 45 submitted available, so I have a heck of a time making ends meet."

"Working at McDonald's is eye opening. Everyone should work there to see the behaviors."

What do you like about working at McDonald's?

"I like the steady pay and hours at McDonald's. I have learned more respect for other people and for other fast food workers. If you didn't know it before, you will learn the golden rule. Between upper management and customers, a worker is a commodity, and you can be treated that way. Not a mistake if you can take it."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be upfront about your schedule. If you have kids, are a student, or have a second job, let them know so they can plan accordingly. They hire pretty readily."

What don't you like about working at McDonald's?

"Customers can be very rude. Upper management rarely backs up a worker and will lie to the health department. Management will throw workers under the bus to cover themselves."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Trust the staff. If they are saying something is happening, then it most likely is. Listen if they have a suggestion. Don't insult their intelligence by sweeping their ideas under the rug. Know that a worker will report to the health department if nobody else will."

McDonald's Employee

"I currently work there and I'm getting tired of it, people call out all the time and they let them, but when a specific person calls out, they're hounding him why he didn’t come to work, and I know an employee that volunteered to work all of his coworkers shift for a month because his dad had a heart attack all the way in Puerto Rico so he kept calling out when he lives right down the street from his work place and now when that person that covered all those shifts calls out they threaten to suspend him, fire him, they went to the point to put that man on a contract just so he couldn’t call out anymore. He got a type of food poisoning and he went to the doctors and got a doctor's note and they still wanted him to work the next day. That store has gone downhill, there are literally managers that work there that don’t even know what’s going on because they don’t know how to communicate, and when they do communicate they belittle you because they have a manager title. The place is so one sided, one employee has to clean a handful of stuff and there will be like 3 other employees that don’t have to do any task at all. I really want this place to get looked at because it’s messed up. They only half fix things, there’s so much equipment that needs refurbishing but they don’t want to spend the money to fix it, they bring someone in, it gets fixed for a day and the next it’s broke again, and don’t get me started on night shift, their list of stuff they have to do gets smaller and smaller every day because the GM is making morning shift do everything from detail cleaning, which it came out GM's mouth that night shift does that and to no one's surprise now it’s morning shift's job so all night shift has to do is cook, that’s literally it, they don’t clean, if they did it wouldn’t be so nasty at 5 in the morning. It’s just getting ridiculous how they hold someone on such a high pedestal and all the rest are not."

What do you like about working at McDonald's?

"I like that the work is constant. I like that everybody there (not including the upper management - ugh) realizes that working at McDonald's is a crappy job and that work is not every employee's whole life. I like that I can fall into a routine and become very, very good at what I do. I like that there is some variety in the work I do, since there are three different positions within the restaurant for a worker like me: cashier for front counter, first booth in drive-through, and second booth. And even then there are sub-jobs and whatnot. I never know for sure where I'll be when I come into work, and they encourage you to branch out and try new parts of the restaurant."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"The more open your schedule is the more likely they'll want to hire you. Be friendly, nerdy, and make yourself sound reliable. The manager knows that it's a crappy job, but he just wants someone he can rely on to show up for shifts and get the work done. ANY experience you have in a fast-paced environment will help you get the job at McDonald's."

What don't you like about working at McDonald's?

"The amount of work you do as opposed to how much you get paid is unfair. The managers can be horrible and incredibly anal, but mostly I just feel bad for them since McDonald's is their whole life. I hate the customers. Most are total creeps. I hate the workplace drama that comes from time to time. I hate the stupid upselling that we have to do. I hate serving our food to obese people. It makes me feel like I'm their dealer. I hate being in a constant rush."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I would make the upper management/owner work in the store. I would organize breaks better."

"Excellent and diverse learning experience. However, there are unclear future possibilities."

What do you like about working at McDonald's?

"I like the vast scope. McDonald's is a large, international company, which provided me with some nice work experience."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"McDonald's may provide excellent possibilities, but you have to be lucky regarding your coworkers, and always work hard. Make sure people are aware of the work you do."

What don't you like about working at McDonald's?

"A few people who are with McDonald's for too long and have settled on a very comfortable pay don't have the drive to truly put in effort and work. There are quite a few small groups of high-ranking employees who don't always follow the rules, but keep each other off the company's radar."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Truly hold each person accountable for their work and behavior. Have more rigorous but fair employee reviews."
