"There are better federal agencies to work for"
What do you like about working at Farm Service Agency?
"Set guidelines and procedures, very clear lines of authority, very liberal time off policy, very dedicated employees who work hard to serve the American farmer."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"If you have a friend, relative or political contact in management or on one of their elected local farmer committees then you might get an interview. This agency is very, very political and unless you grew up on a farm they don't like you. There are other USDA agencies that would be a better choice of workplace."
What don't you like about working at Farm Service Agency?
"They do not believe in promoting white males as it's not politically correct. Unless you are a minority, female, disabled and/or a veteran you can forget about getting a management position. Zero funding for professional devleopment and training due to budget cuts. System rewards seniority not job performance. Good Ole Boy system and using your political contacts to get management jobs makes it hard to advance. The computer systems do not work properly making everyone's job difficult."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Stop the reverse-discrimination, nepotism and favoritism. Go to a pay-for-performance compensation system. Find funding to actually send people to training courses they need to do their jobs, tuition reimbursement for college studies, and better communication of organizational goals."
