Advertising Representative

What do you like about working at YellowBook?

"I liked consulting businesses and helping them with all of their Advertising Needs as well as looking at their business as a whole and making the appropriate recommendations. I loved the experience & training I received in SEO, SEM, Websites as well as Ad Creation and all of the different channels (Creative & Directional) and the methodologies & best practices that a business could effectively implement to be successful."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"I would recommend that they try to focus on the digital marketing and although print is still a large revenue source, digital is where they are going to have the highest ROI and make the largest commissions and see the most rewards from a personal level when they can watch their customers achieve (and surpass) their objectives with effective campaigns."

What don't you like about working at YellowBook?

"Compensation Plan. I was told that if a Representative obtained their quota that a certain income was achievable. I surpassed quotas and that income level was not even close."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"To have a more favorable compensation plan in place for their Representatives and that would reduce the high turn-over rate in their organization. They spend a lot of time with training and employee retention should be valued with an utmost importance as well as placing a larger emphasis on customer satisfaction vs. end user satisfaction primarily."

"Low base, high pressure, long road to make good $"

What do you like about working at YellowBook?

"Business owners perception is print yellow pages is dead, just ask AT&T who sold their product. The other product offerings are good, but pricey and the image of Yellowbook has some tarnish to it."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you are young, with a fire in your belly, give it a shot. Who knows, you may actually be one who may stick. If you are a veteran sales person between jobs, or looking for a career change, there are most definitely other positions you should consider."

What don't you like about working at YellowBook?

"Too much emphasis is placed on bringing in new business, which is often mis-sold with the wrong, or poorly placed program, causing early cancelations. The pressure to produce new sales, or be fired, couple with micro managment and favoritism, causes high turnover. In a year and a half only 2 reps of a 10 person team are the same. The amount of time it would take for a veteran salesperson to make real money is far from satisfactory and not a good fit."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Take care of your current customers first, concentrating on that revenue and servicing them, and you will have to sell less new business and can sell them properly. Have a pay plan based on achieving going over last years revenue and not juggling the numbers as they are now, which are quite misrepresentative of actual results. They are a class action suit waiting to happen."
