"Western Digital is a good environment for developers because they put developers first. I never once had an issue where I felt that the higher-ups weren't treating us like "the talent". That's unique to Western Digital."
"Awesome company to work for. Very cool environment with a lot of freedom to employees."
"WD is very big. A lot depenends on manager of your particular team. I was very lucky. My manager was exceptional person and lead. People from other teams in the same departament wanted to move to our team (and some did). It seems like one common thing for Western Digital software is: very difficult to get raise/promotion. I consistently received good (Above Target or Significantly Above Target) marks during performance reviews, but only thanks to my manager's big efforts got raises (and not too impressive). WD has been economically solid and consistently paid insreased profit sharing during last 5 years."
"It's a good company, especially for the hardware field."
"I have worked for WD for nearly six months. It was an amazing experience. I had a good time with my colleagues. I have learnt a lot of professional skills. As my first job, it was absolutely awesome."
"Western Digital is in a very competitive consumer industry. It has been my experience there that they make the employees very aware how little they will spend on their employees. Cost cutting at all times; with no support or provisions for expanding the work place. There are no corporate plans for modernization, each group is left to fend for themselves. XP and minimum memory are the norm, and no plans for development software upgrades. Even your work-station is recycled from someone else."
"I worked there over a year and my experience is mediocre at best. There are high expectations with limited resources. A lot of cooks in the kitchen so the projects are always difficult to meet deadlines. Very difficult to move up unless someone retires or quits, so the ceiling is set at manager level. Company preaches a positive work environment but the practice is 180 degrees."
"Good junior employees but harassing lying executives. They do illegal work practices there."
"Lot of lies, prejudice, and harassment may occur."
"I worked at WD company for almost six months as an intern. I like WD, it offered me a chance to get touch with new technologies."
"Company has a lot of potential, but does not emphasize employee morale and R&D."
"One of the worst companies; executives curse; executives may lie; executives want you to harass people illegally."
"If you're an electrical engineer, then you can work at WD and build a good career. However, if you're a computer scientist, stay far away. They hire CS people and put them in positions where they're incapable of advancement due to a lack of electrical engineering knowledge."
"No one's job is secure. This means that doing a better job than your manager at his, or her job is ABSOLUTELY not a good idea."
