Warehouse supervisors oversee a wide variety of warehouse activities which can include shipping and receiving materials, maintaining inventory, and record keeping. They are also responsible for employee management which can include hiring and training of new employees, planning and assigning daily work, as well as resolving problems.
Skillset: Warehouse supervisors generally have a strong background in management and operations. They must be well organized with excellent problem solving skills and able to work in a team environment. Strong communication skills also serve warehouse supervisors well as they interact with clients and employees.
Education: A high school diploma is sufficient for most warehouse supervisor positions though some will require at least an associate’s degree and a few years of relevant experience.
Career Path: Warehouse supervisors must show strong leadership and management ability while keeping up with inventory, record keeping, and inspections. Although most positions only require a high school diploma and a few years of relevant experience, an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business or a related field will increase desirability. Internships and warehouse related jobs are great ways to increase experience and build a resume.
