Initially the company specialized in electronic cores and was involved in services for research and development. They also produced word processors, microcomputers and minicomputers.

Wang Laboratories headquarters were located in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, from 1963 to 1976, then Lowell, Massachusetts from 1976 to 1997. The first successful year for Wang Laboratories was 1963, due to the Linasec machine, which resulted in $300,000 in sales. In 1992, Wang Laboratories was forced to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. They were acquired by Getronics in 1999.
