Senior Pharmacy Technician
in Milwaukee, WI

"Have been working there since 1999. Upper management shifts have been unfair to employees over the last few years. On the job training excellent especially if you want to get certified and go to a hospital where the pay is better. Immediate store management is very excellent when dealing with issues. Middle to upper management rarely seen in stores making it hard to have specific needs or questions met."

What do you like about working at Walgreens?

"I have been at this job since my senior year of high school, it has gotten me through college and is now helping me pay bills while I start my career. I'm not sure about like, but this job is in my comfort zone. I have been with Walgreens for over eight years because I didn't need to look for a new job until I had my college degree."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you apply to Walgreens, don't wait for them to call you, you need to call them. I called back four different times, showing up two times, before I was hired eight years ago at $5.00 an hour when I was in high school."

What don't you like about working at Walgreens?

"The job is a retail position. No matter how much I improve my title or myself with the company, I am still a service clerk in the end. With a four-year college degree, I feel I should be working someplace else. Besides that, I can't really complain. I get paid vacation, paid holidays, and a 401K plan. Sure, I have to work weekends, but its still 40 hours per week."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I suggest management better themselves in all departments of the store. Over my eight years with the company, I have met many managers who don't know several parts of the department mechanics, nevertheless how Walgreens wants each department to be run. Not just the pharmacy, where I work, but the photo and cosmetic department, too."
