"I currently am working as a Door Corps at the Waffle House location on Ingleside Road in Norfolk Virginia, and am a part time employee, but they cannot seem to get my paycheck correct weekly.... It all started back in August, when I took 2 days off for my birthday, but made them up the following week. I was of course not paid for the days I took off, but I was also not credited with the days I did work to make them up correctly, because the manager on duty did not put in my time correctly. This was corrected, somewhat. after I spoke to a different manager who had the money I was shorted returned to me the following week, but the pay for that week was also low. Again, I had to get the money I was not paid correctly added to my following week's paycheck, but then that paycheck was also light. This has happened every week since then, and again today, which is supposed to be pay day, I have been shorted. This is getting ridiculous now, and I am beginning to think the people they have working in the payroll department are completely incompetent, and that the managers are just lying to you about correcting issues to get you to leave them alone. IF you do take a job here, be prepared to keep close eye on your hours worked because their scheduling system is confused to say the least, and the on site managers do not really care about you at all."
"Waffle House is an excellent way to be introduced to having serving experience within the food industry. They have staff readily available to help any new employee by providing the necessary tools to do the job well. The hiring process is typically short and training takes only a few days. The coworkers are very patient and helpful toward new employees so that the team does a good job as an entire unit."
"I worked at Waffle House for over two years, and I thoroughly enjoyed coming to work every single day. I was recognized for my hard work, and I met the one of the founders who acknowledged me by my name. They truly care about their associates and they were family to me."
"Waffle is a great place for a College student to get experience in management. It is also a place where if you don’t have a clue what to start your career this is the place for you. It is also a place where if you don’t have a family/kids is a great place to start"
"I have been with Waffle House since 2016. It’s a company with a very family-first atmosphere to it, great benefits, awesome culture and a great history. The pay is above average for mangers in the food sector but the work life balance could be better."
"Hard work, hard hours, some good people. Your experience depends on your upline. Make no excuses and you will be fine. Hard on family life, you learn a lot though. They will lie to get you on board, so believe half of what they say, and if you're good with half then you'll be just fine. Never forget it's 24/7 with only one day off during major holidays, and when someone calls off you fill that whole, and sometimes you work doubles to save payroll. Once you successfully work here every other job will be a breeze. Life changing experience for sure. Good luck!"
"Basically given a stick and told to make fire. We impressed even ourselves with our ability to always come through. Dialup internet, COBOL iSeries, Visual Foxpro, .NET 1.0, the list goes on and on of old technologies we were expected to use in order to produce highly functioning tools."
"Bad pay, mean coworkers, management, and customers. I worked third shift for a year at Waffle House and was CONSTANTLY harassed by coworkers and drunk customers. Everyone on the job smokes weed or drinks out back during the smoke break. They rarely followed rules. Everyone complains about their personal life. The cooks recently got a raise to $10 per hour, when they do NOT deserve it, I can't tell you how many times I've done there side work, they never have to deal with yelling customers either."
"I have worked for Waffle House for 18 years."
"Great work with great upper mobility. Waffle house works everyone very hard but also compensates their managers very well. Be prepared to work all holidays no matter what. If you are good at your job you will move up quickly at this company. All stores are are open 24/7/365 so you will be getting a few midnight phone calls from your associates. Overall, Waffle house has many great people to work with and a great overall work experience. Having a restaurant background will help you."
