Executive Assistant

"Not as fulfilling as I hoped. Limited job growth. Poor company moral."

What do you like about working at Valley National Bank?

"I enjoyed working with the two Executive Vice Presidents. They knew their jobs and tried to do them with the limits that were placed on them. I made friends through out the company and found the majority of the staff easy going and fun to work with."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Do research the senior management thoroughly and use your business network to find out about key staff. The company has a high turn over rate and it's a certain type of personality (a personality test is given prior to hiring) that will suceed."

What don't you like about working at Valley National Bank?

"The CEO was a micro manager who did not let department heads do their jobs without interference. The CEO was over involved with outside activities under the guise of marketing that resulting in not as much time being commited to her primary role."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"The CEO needs to step back from outside activities and committees (limiting them to perhaps 3) and take a step back into her normal role. She needs to realize she hired a great senior management team and allow them to do their jobs without interference in their day-to-day job functions. The CEO preached family but didn't show that in her actions."
