"Almost everything is rotating shift work. Have to wait 7-8 years to move from Iron to steel. people off the street can get to better areas b4 a person with seniority. To many to list."

"Being gone for 2/3 of the year or longer. Working for extremely long hours during deployment. Average workday for my rate (job) was 20 hours while underway. Cat naps are essential, after 9/11 I spent 80 hours in my workcenter without seeing my bed."

"Think real hard before taking this job. It is difficult to explain why you got fired from your first job after graduating college. Successful US Steel managers are genetically selected from the DNA pool of anaerobic bacteria. If you don't fit, you will not survive."

"Going to work each day with a sense of hopelessness, and wondering how may days it will take until I finally go insane."

"Fond another company that will fit your needs - only if you are desperate follow through with USS for teh experience, but dont plan on staying for long - you will not be happy."

"poor upper managment, drive people like dogs, no respect for the employees in general - focus on making money at cost of employee"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Get real, stay in touch, clean house with plant managers - practice what you preach and make sure it is happening at all levels. Words and paper work paint a whole different story then actual mill practices and activites."
