"Easy work and lots of vacation. Coworkers are also pretty fun to work with at times. Not the people I'm constantly around but the deputy district attorney's that I work for."

"Have tough skin and don't expect to move up any time at all. Everyone at my position is capped at where they're at. There are no opportunities to move up."

"The people are completely crap at times. They definitely hired some duds and kept on some people that should have been let go a long time ago."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Not too sure.... managing at the government level is very different from corporate. you can't just fire anyone that you think is doing a crappy job. I think I would take more of a stand on issues and instead of asking for group input about something I would just say that this is the way things are going to be. no ifs and or buts."

"Work here requires strong convening and consensus building skills. Project and contract management is the primary job function. Be prepared to navigate bureaucratic processes to complete tasks. Flexible work schedule, regular job hours, and paid holidays are incredible benefits."

"Lack of realistic goal setting, work plans, and projects that serve clear needs. Feeling there are few opportunities for advancement. Projects lack scope. Silos."

"Prioritize projects that demonstrate the highest impact. Place clear goals and workplans around projects. Ensure projects are derived from and serve constituent needs. Offer a wider variety of projects and opportunities for development for employees. Foster more creativity. Set clear expectations and goals via office policies."

"It has great perks and retirements. I also get tons of training."

"Certifications are king. You can rise to the top of the ranks with certifications and no degree."

What don't you like about working at United States Government?

"We waste money at every possilbe chance because we don't want to go with cheaper solutions to simple problems. They believe if they spend thousands of dollars on a firewall we will be more secure... but everyone knows it is all in how you configure it."

"We never get to put our ideas into play because there are a million rules that say we can't. I just feel like there is a lot of improvments we could make if we were allowed"

"Very little. You don't lose seniority when switching to another department."

"If you are intending to try for management, ask current managers for mentoring opportunity. It is too easy to get stuck in the analyst series for 10+ years or more!"

"Top Administrators changes every 4 years or less. We are driven & tossed by elections. Current boss doesn't want to learn our software, so is trying to make everyone here convert to the software he already knows. Current boss is a new manager, & is pretty lousy at it at this time -- can't keep a steady course & keeps changing his mind & forcing me to redo things over & over."

"Try to stay on a steadier course, rather than having his staff re-do the same project over & over each time the boss changes his mind."

"I loved working at the U.S. government. I am a very self-motivated employee and always give 100% to my work."

"Be yourself; put your best foot forward; the government is always looking for creative people who thing outside the box."

"I prefer to work on my own; given a task and taking task and running with it. I alway met my deadlines on time and within budget."
