Product Manager

What do you like about working at Trustwave?

"The insurance I have the illusion of control because few pay attention to me, but I would really appreciate some knowledgeable guidance. Instead I'm forced to forge my own path which is fine but it doesn't help me grow as an employee or a person. I guess some of the people are okay here, but all in all we're just kinda floating by for the sake of floating by."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Apply elsewhere. Seriously, though, we hired a VP of product management and this very talented person was asked by several people,Why on earth do you work here Eek."

What don't you like about working at Trustwave?

"It's terrible. There is no vision of product, culture and so on. While I'm told that I should be the owner of my product, I am also required to do innumerable tactical things that are foisted upon me. There is no room to grow and no one to help me grow. I'm floating on collecting a paycheck doing work that isn't important and I have no confidence that things will ever improve here. Our processes are completely broken where they can be found--and, believe me, they are *rarely* found. Whole divisions within Trustwave do no like to work with each other, and finger-pointing is all too common."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"With my boss, I fell as if he doesn't know what he's doing as he doesn't have demonstrable success in our field, is a very poor communicator, does not understand our products or key players within the company, is not well-respected by others in the company and does not offer valuable or constructive advice. While he stated that he was going to work on establishing repeatable, documented processes, he has done nothing of the sort. Furthermore, the only time I hear from him is when there is a firedrill. If I were in his shoes, I'd work with the many groups we interact with on a daily basis to establish expectations and processes that govern our interactions: So often we find each other pointing fingers because we are all confused about who is responsible for different actions. Furthermore, I'd establish expectations with my reports so that they know exactly what it is they are trying to accomplish, and then I'd work hard to establish plans of action to help them achieve those goals. Without goals and plans to achieve them, there is zero accountability."

What do you like about working at Trustwave?

"I'm in close proximity to their R and D department."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"You much know your infosec and networking fundamentals (at least if you interview for MSS)."

What don't you like about working at Trustwave?

"Our department grew faster than we have capacity for, and if I'm going to suffer growing paints, I'd rather be in something like Vulnerability or Exploit Research rather than MSS."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Impress upon other teams the need for good products and are provisioned correctly."
