"The standard Highline Hotel is a great place to work. The fast-paced and quirky nature of the hotel keeps you occupied. The managers are very helpful and the team makes you feel right at home. Although sometimes you are left to take charge of the situations, there is always someone there to help."

"The company has a lot of heart and potential, but limits itself with very old thinking. Further, there is a lot of group think - literally everyone must agree and feel comfortable for any action. That said, they are stable and very flexible with schedules. Insurance companies typically don't innovate, so if that's your goal, this might not be a great fit. There are some good people here and it's the largest employer in Portland."

What do you like about working at The Standard?

"There is some flexibility with scheduling, and we do get to travel occassionally. I enjoy the client contact and relationship building."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Get to know your manager first, ask lots of questions about their style."

What don't you like about working at The Standard?

"Management has changed out job structure to focus on proactive activity when most of what we have to do everyday is reactive. The goals for my job are now unrealistic, and management refuses to recognize that, so we all feel set up to fail."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Spend much less time involved in day to day activities of staff. If you hire smart people, trust that they are doing the job well and get involved only when necessary. I'd understand that a lot of what we do has grey area and isn't always going to be black and white."

"Be yourself and be honest and show motivation that you are the right person for the job."

"I don't have any negative experience working in the company"

"Support and positive attitude towards personnel working on troubleshooting issues."

"The people were great, dress code was relaxed, and not a lot of pressure at all times."

What don't you like about working at The Standard?

"Advancement within the corporation is hard. New ideas were hard to get approved and were usually lost 2 or 3 people up the chain of command, even if all the work was already done."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Consult with people doing the work and not stop at the middle management level. No one in the department I was working in felt they had a voice for anything we were doing and for the decisions that were being made in the restructuring of the department."
