"At Target and especially in the Starbucks Kiosk at a mall it's very hard to be recognized and appreciated for what you do and what you can bring to the table. It also seems like some management give you hours according to how well/not well you up-sell Red Cards rather than 'vibing' with the customer. However the good part about working there is that there are really kind, genuine and hardworking team members who will give you their shirt off their back even if they've only met you once."

"I love working with my coworkers, they are fun and good people. My work is absolutely thankless, I've been called names, cussed out and been treated poorly often. I always smile and try to help but I am a human being and deserve more."

"Being a Guest Service Team Member is like being a glorified door greeter. Your job entails telling guests which register they should go to. If you have any customer issues, you are going to have to side with the fact that the company is right and they are wrong, or their coupon doesn't work."

Team Member at Dairy Queen
in Nashua, NH

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"They hired me and then fired me in only a week."

What do you like about working at Dairy Queen?

"I got to make some money and make some customers happy."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Simple, don't apply here unless you want to be screwed over."

What don't you like about working at Dairy Queen?

"They hired me for my first job and only trained me for about an hour and then sent me to the mall to work without any more training and expected me to work at the level of everyone else who has been working there for over three years. They then fired me a week later saying that I was too slow, when they fired me they had a coworker that wasn't even a manager call me and inform me instead of the boss. Coworkers were completely unhelpful and yelled at me for not being as fast as them even though I wasn't trained."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Learn how to properly hire and train. Don't fire someone after only a week when they are trying their absolute best."

Team Member at Menards
in Eau Claire, WI

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"Looks are deceiving. Menards doesn't care about you."

What do you like about working at Menards?

"It's a job. Period. OK. I love helping our customers."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Only work here while seeking BETTER employment. 10 years at best."

What don't you like about working at Menards?

"I have worked for Menards for almost 25 years. The only reason I am still there is that I am almost 50 and I don't know what I want to do now and I am limited as far as moving. The first 10 years were pretty good with constant pay increases, more vacation time, and opportunity to move up. After 10 years you are pretty much maxed out in pay and benefits unless you are promoted to a higher position. You can make great money, but you have to pay for it with large amounts of overtime (50-60 hours a week) and demanding goals. Most jobs are not for people with families, as you will work many weekends, holidays, and long hours. Menards is only closed Christmas and Thanksgiving, but I'm sure we will soon be open Thanksgiving. Any day not open is a loss for the richest man in Wisconsin, but he won't be working holidays. I have not received a pay increase in 10 years and that includes any cost of living increase. I am maxed out for the pay scale as I am making an incredible wage of just under $12.00 for 25 years of loyalty and experience. I have worked with and for some great people, but many of them have been let go or quit for better jobs. Loyalty means nothing to Menards except they want 100% loyalty from YOU! Experience means nothing to them. 25 days or 25 years, you are expendable. Menards does not pay for anything. You must pay for all of your equipment including badges. OK. They give you 1 shirt. Don't say hI to another co-worker or you will be accused of standing around. Corporate office video views you from the cameras in the ceiling. YES. IT'S TRUE! They will actually call the department manager and/or store manager if they see something they don't like. Corporate sends department managers so many tasks via the department computer that they hardly have time to run their department and it makes them irritable, which make you irritable. The payroll that the departments receive is so low that it is very stressful on employees and management. You never seem to have enough people to get anything done, and there is a lot of stock to be put away and downstocked. I want to say this to Menards customers. If it seems that there is nobody around to help you, it's because the payroll is so low that the workers are desperately trying to get the stock put out so they can go home. There is NO SICK PAY! John Menard does not believe in paying people to be sick, EVEN IF YOU'RE IN THE HOSPITAL!!! If you do not have vacation days to use up, you could go broke. You probably will anyway with the $70.00 a WEEK health insurance that covers 80% AFTER your $1500. 00 deductible! Dental is only for teeth cleaning and 1 set of x-rays a year. Get a cavity or worse and it will cost you thousands. You get some money off eye exams, but no glasses. Remember this if you really want to work there. It only takes 1 manager who doesn't like you to kill your career. Don't try for a promotion that his buddy is going for, or you could be in a bad way quick."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"At least make an attempt to appear that you care."
