"I accepted a low salary with a high bonus upon sale of the company.
I was told the company would be sold within a couple years.
After a couple years, the company was not sold. Further, I was apprised that it won't sell for another 5 years. My bonus was quietly amortized over 7 rather than 2 years.
When the company decided to move to Las Vegas, I was not willing to move, as my children live in Franklin, TN. They were not willing to allow me to hold the CTO role as a remote position. There was insufficient compensation to synthesize these two facts, so I chose to leave the company so I could be near my kids.
All salaries at this company, with exactly 2 exceptions, were exploitative and unfair. The 2 exceptions were employees which I personally brought into the company and I fought for decent compensation."

"The salary ranges were a little low for the expectations for the role. However, the ability to shape and define your future in an up and coming company is in itself, additional compensation."
