What do you like about working at Symantec?

"At first it was great but as BV took over there was definite favoritism by management. We were LP2A employees & management was from B& H; both acquired by BV around the same time. However prejudice existed by B&H personnel against LP2A employees & we were laid off."

"They failed to maintain Public Works Division & contracts with lots of municipalities losing money & jobs & creating massive layoffs or quality people leaving."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Get back to the Family Atmosphere that was originally there. Accept employee input. Put the trust back in the job & the people where the relationship has become estranged."

"The money may be good and maybe it's the right place for you. But they have had several lay-offs in recent years so trust your instincts. Can be a good company for some."

"The work culture made working for the company an unpleasant experience. The SE management is honestly not trained to properly manage technical field sales engineers."

"Get sales and personnel management training, get into the field, go on customer calls with the field SEs,"

"Don't pad your resume. There are some of the best software engineers in the field working for Symantec. They will be able to see through any trumped up claims."

"Sometimes things can be lost in the shuffle of a large company."

"This is an excellent company to get experience in Software Development. However, the salary may not be very high."

"Crazy management style that believes they can achieve goals by eliminating senior experienced staff and use low paid junior staff. There is a management tendency to have everyone take on 3 to 4 roles at the least and expect them to do them right - 16 hours a day."

"Get real about what you want to achieve and how you can achieve it."

"The place really needs a management culture overhaul."

"It was a great place to work when they first bought U.S. Labs but became very process driven. One spent more time writing and reviewing reports then with clients."

"The European culture was and is very different than ours. Too many processes. Too many meetings."

"Sell it back to Americans or have an American oversee the North American operations. The current leader is out of touch."
