What do you like about working at Sunriver Resort?

What don't you like about working at Sunriver Resort?

"I worked in Grounds during the Christmas decorating phase. They call it Traditions. This was the worse job I ever had. I have 30 years experience in Electronic Manufacturing Engineering and Management. I am retired. I took this job for something to do and to make a little extra money. The employees all rat on each other and this is encouraged by management. Two situations are typical of the way employees are treated.A.) I was taken by my boss to a tree right in front of the main lodge. He told me he wanted it to look special due to its prominent location. I told him not to worry I would do it the same as my tree at home and he replied to take my time and do it right. The next morning I went to work on it and placed white lights on the inside of tree and colored lights carefully hidden around the outside. When I finished about 1.5 hours later my supervisor came by in his golf cart. He was mad that I was taking so long and told me it looked terrible and I used to many lights. I tried to tell him the orders I was given by the Manager the day before. He jumped of his cart and ripped out all the lights and told me he would have someone else do it. The next day it looked like crap. The Manager did not back me up to the supervisor.B.) I was clearing snow on a Gator snow plow. A guest flagged me down and asked if she could borrow my shovel. I smiled and said no but you can borrow me and my shovel. The resort does not clear snow on the handicapped ramps leading to the rooms in the three groups of condos. Her husband was in a wheel chair and could not get to the room. Not to worry I said and cleared a area around his handicapped van and a path all the way to the room. She was very happy and wanted to tip me but I refused the tip and apologized for the inconvenience. I told her I would let my boss know that we should be clearing the ramps. When I returned to the maintenance shed about 15 minutes late for lunch I was reprimanded for being late and told I was to take my lunch on schedule. I explained the situation. My boss was furious and told me we don't get handicapped guests. I replied well you have one now! Shortly after this I was let go. I could go on and on with similar stories."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Go outside your office and look at the work your employees are not doing. Take some pride in your position and put your guest's before your huge bonus's. A good manager tactfully imposes authority, getting mad and yelling at subordinates and writing them up for minor perceived infractions doesn't help anyone. Showing favoritism to friends and relatives leads to a disgruntled work force."
