"My unfortunate experience with Sun Life is illustrated by this story: The director to which I reported was a lady, previously working as a manager assistant without IT technical knowledge (in her own words). Yet, she evaluated and ranked database administrators !? Another director, I reported to was almost completely unresponsive and passive. My complaints about them were submitted to HR, and CEO was informed in written. - I was underutilized, almost idle. Upon my repetitive requests for more work, both in quantity and quality, the director did not even respond to me. He announced two new hires, instead. - One of the two aforementioned directors promoted a junior employee to Senior DBA position, only after two years spent in the company after his graduation. Ironically, it happened soon after the other director characterized him as “still very junior”. The promotion caused a lot of eyebrow raising in the organization. The junior was set in the same level with indeed senior database administrators with 20+ years of experience. - An incident which made me to leave the organization happened when the female director sent out an email about a project to some people subjectively selected by her, yet unrelated to the project, while leaving out those who contributed to the project. I drew attention to her about that. She visibly became hostile to me, and it was clear I would not be able to remain in the organization. I resigned. - Upon my complaint to the HR, she stated two false reasons why I was underutilized. I explained to HR why they are wrong and probably made up to justify purely biased and vindictive attitude. - Upon my resignation my immediate supervisors were approached by director level individuals, which knew the quality of my work, trying to find a solution to keep me. They were rejected rather brusquely . I have already told the entire story to HR but I have not heard any comment or judgement yet. All the facts stated are verifiable and not contrad"

"Worked at Sun in 2 stints, early nineties and currently - total of 15-16 years (tho they will not credit me with the earlier (>5 yrs) for pension/retirement). High pressure, upper management disconnected from workers, high ego expression (to the detriment company's progress). My area, stop loss underwriting, has been wildly profitable but salaries and bonuses are stagnant. Rumors of big salary differences between existing underwriters and the new (past 6 mtht) underwriters hired (ie, hired at market and existing underwriters are under paid)."

"Sun Life in Wellesley, MA is a joke. They don't know how to manage effectively. They email supervisors back and forth, complaining about employees, yet they never speak to them directly. There is a party/get-together many times per month. Also, when at the "party", the "supervisors" seem to force themselves into "showing how much fun they're having", (they're not) in pictures, for the company newsletter. Actually, would rather work than be "forced" to go to yet another "party". Also, when mgmt finally does say something to employees, they do it at their desk - around other employees - not in an office."

"I was employed by Sun Life for 11 years. In that time, I worked with some of the best and brightest people you could hope for. From my supervisor's willingness to support any training, to my peers who made it a perfect place to work. I would recommend anyone becoming an employee of Sun Life."
