What do you like about working at Stover Hearth & Patio?
"Generally, I enjoy the company of my co-workers and employers. The opportunity to see a project from start to finish, and to continue the relationship with certain customers afterward is very rewarding. Traveling about the area and witnessing firsthand design trends and personal taste in the homes of customers is of great interest."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Be honest regarding what you are willing to do and what you are not willing to do. A family business needs personal loyalty, and an applicant must be willing to offer that loyalty and do what is in his or her power to help. Be able to adapt to changing markets and changing clientele from season to season."
What don't you like about working at Stover Hearth & Patio?
"Unfortunately, there is no room for growth left after almost eleven years of employment for this family business. While I am grateful for the time spent and lessons learned with the Stovers, in order to grow more fully, I must move move on. It is certainly a symptom of all business, and small business in particular, to let differences become personal."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Management ought to trust those working for them. Too much micro-management can cause an employee to become nervous, and less likely to make a proper work decision under that microscope. On the other hand, an employee cannot be ignored and left to make all decisions without the benefit of feedback. It is a difficult beam to balance. I would suggest that some policies would be adhered to more efficiently and rightly if there were some sort of handbook or contract that both management and an employee could reference in the event of disagreement."
