Overview StorageTek is a data storage technology company. It was founded in 1969 by four former IMB engineers and was called the Storage Technology Corporation until 1983, when the company changed its name and officially became StorageTek. StorageTek is now a subsidiary of the Oracle Corporation and operates within the Oracle Corporation's technology network. StorageTek's headquarters were located in Louisville, Colorado until Oracle took over the company.

StorageTek made many technological breakthroughs when it stood as its own company between 1969 and 2005. Its most impressive accomplishment came in 1986 when the company developed the first cached disk. This disk helped StorageTek gain global recognition in the technology industry and more importantly, it helped the company emerge from the Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection it entered in 1984.
