"Career Bliss Lost"

What do you like about working at STMicroelectronics?

"Quality training. Potential to advance if you worked hard. Always got recognized and rewarded for extra effort or going beyond the work requirements. Compressed work schedule would allow for more days off during the week. High security environment made me feel safe. Most of all I will miss the GOOD people. Not since my days in the USAF have I worked with people who were so dedicated and regimented with reviews They had positive constructive work ethics."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"They can't because they are closing the plant, but if they were not I would say take your time with the entrance exam and do not rush yourself when you get to the FAB simulator coarse. Pay strict attention to detail when reading the simulator instructions. They are designed to be tricky and see if you can follow procedure with no mistakes"

What don't you like about working at STMicroelectronics?

"No tolerance for tardiness for things beyond your control. If you were late no excuse would matter and you were written up no matter what. Sick time was only 2. days a year. That's quite extreme (also 2 late arrivals counted as 1 sick day) And of coarse they shut down one of the best plants they had just to save money on labor by outsourcing the work off shore."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Please keep jobs in America if they are already there. They have degraded thousands of peoples lifestyles just for there own corporate greed. the company grossed over 2 billion dollars last year so they did not NEED to close it they just did it for the little extra money offshore labor provides them."

What don't you like about working at STMicroelectronics?

"The enviorment of a Class 10 Cleanroom We had to wear suits covering everything 12 hours at a time. It was murder when you had to go to the bathroom in a hurry."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"It is too late but don't out source are jobs to other countries for cheaper labor. It will degrade the overall quality."
